Designer, Omer Abel, created the now-iconic Series 28 Chandelier back in 2010 for Canadian lighting company, Bocci. With its sumptuous glass spheres-within-spheres, hung in groups, it’s like an inverted bunch of balloons. The individual pendant lights are designed to be hung in a cluster (of 28), and can be custom-coloured. But until now, number, colour and formation were really the only variations for the Series 28.
Well, I’ve just learnt that they’re releasing a new desk lamp version. Personally, this one does even more for me than the original. The sphere – with three spherical indentations, one opaque housing the bulb – rests on a length of ‘memory cord’, which also provides the power.
I love this playful element, as it completely changes the personality of the lamp; from something that must be revered, an untouched statement, to an object that begs to be touched, manipulated and personalised.
The 28d will be available to purchase in the coming months.
